Use this to: decide whether a new routine will help or add more work.
Try it
- Name the proposed routine and its purpose. What need would it meet?
- Count its demands. Include preparation, time, decisions, cost, and remembering to do it.
- Consider a simpler change. Could you remove, reduce, share, or adjust something that is wearing you out?
- Choose what fits. Keep the routine, make it smaller, or choose a different response.
Example
You consider an elaborate Sunday meal-prep routine. It would require shopping, planning, cooking, and cleanup when you already need rest. Repeating two simple meals and sharing the shopping may fit better.
Your next step: Decide: “I will try … because it meets … without requiring more than I can manage.”
